The Dark Side of Substance Use

Life is hard. Many people have vices to help cope with uncomfortable feelings, or what I call them now, BIG feelings.

Substances change our brain chemistry and often bring a sense of calm (even if it's just a short term fix), as well as releasing dopamine and other feel-good chemicals and hormones.

At one point in my journey, I listened to many podcasts. One day, I listened to one, and the podcaster mentioned how marijuana can open a portal to... entities, to energies that are heavy and dense. At this time, I was in a relationship with a partner that had marijana all the time. I smoked it fairly consistently. No joke, maybe the weekend or two after I listened to this podcast, I was at my partner's house and I remember I was in his bathroom, and I had this very dark feeling and realization, where I felt like I needed to be high to just be okay in that moment. It was like that temptation, darkness, wanted to take over and I felt this low vibration that wasn't a part of me, it did feel like it was something else that had latched onto me.

Overall, all substances need to be broken down by our liver. Our liver is a big detox organ, and it breaks down substances so they can metabolize and leave our bodies. Here is a blog on some drugs and their effect on the liver: https://www.tidesedgedetoxcenter.com/detox-blog/understanding-what-drugs-cause-liver-damage/

Most people's livers are already overburdened and working over time, with chemicals in our water, our environment, our air, toiletries, cleaning substances, and toxins on or in our food. Adding to this, is like adding to a list of never ending things to complete, and the liver can never quite catch up.

Of course, there is the emotional ups and downs of having an addict in your life as well - the journey can be draining.

If you, or someone you know struggles with addiction, I recommend exploring the underlying traumas that may exist, as well as seeking treatment.
