Ever since I first watched Blackfish on Netflix for the first time over 10 years ago now, it really struck a chord with me. I could always feel and connect to the situation deeply.
I would say compassion is inherently part of my soul and soul's purpose, meaning I have sympathy for others that are suffering - no matter what kind of being it may be. Along with being an empath, I can feel the pain fairly easily, so I do care about alleviating the pain no matter how I can.
In this blog post, I feel called to bring light and awareness to ANOTHER instance of a lone orca in captivity for over 40 years that recently passed away.
Kiska was kept at Marineland Canada, by herself for her final 12 years. She birthed numerous calves that all either died, or were taken away from her (over a span of at least 40 total years in captivity).
Orcas are highly social creatures, so her being left all alone was HIGHLY stressful.
After a quick Google search,
humans can only do up to FIFTEEN DAYS in prison, after that, it's considered torture.
Can you imagine hearing about a human being in solitary confinement for TEN YEARS? Some humans made the choice
to enslave
and torture
another living being
for greed and profit.
If you're introverted and sensitive like me, you understand that having time and space to yourself is mandatory.
However,
still messaging or texting others is still a form connection, as well as even briefly connecting with other humans such as roommates still counts as some form of connection.
One action step to takeaway is this -
Just start to become aware of how humans try to control others, as well as control other beings.
It reminds me of the song, "Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas:
"You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and sea and creature, has a spirit, has a name"
